How a customer challenge led to a patented mixing innovation

At MIXACO, innovation has never been an end in itself. New technologies are not developed simply because something new is possible, but because real production processes create real challenges that require better solutions. One of the best examples of this approach is the development of the MIXACO Container Mixer Multitool™.

Its story began with a customer requirement for which there was no suitable solution available on the market at the time: the need for a highly dispersive mixer that would not generate unwanted heat.

When conventional mixing technology reached its limits

In many industrial mixing applications, especially those involving sensitive additives, thermal input is a critical factor. Numerous materials used in industrial formulations have relatively low melting points. In conventional mixers, the energy introduced during the process often led to an unwanted rise in product temperature.

This created a serious challenge. Materials could begin to melt, stick to the mixing tools and lose their homogeneous distribution. Instead of achieving a stable and reliable result, the process itself became a source of inconsistency.

For many applications, this meant that existing mixing technology had reached its limits. The industry needed a new answer.

A new way of thinking about the mixing process

At MIXACO, this challenge became the starting point for a completely new development approach. Rather than trying to optimize existing systems only incrementally, the goal was to rethink the mixing principle itself.

The breakthrough idea was based on the interaction of two complementary tools:

• a large, slow running tool that keeps the material in constant motion without significantly increasing the material temperature
• a smaller, high speed tool that enables mixing from gentle homogenization up to highly dispersive processing

This combination created something fundamentally different from traditional approaches. The material could be moved, mixed and dispersed in a targeted way, while unwanted temperature increase was minimized.

The result was a completely new mixing principle that addressed one of the most difficult process requirements in industrial mixing: combining dispersive performance with minimal thermal stress.

From idea to patented solution

What began as a response to a very specific customer challenge soon became one of the most important milestones in MIXACO’s innovation history.

The newly developed system was successfully patented and first presented in 2009 as the MIXACO Container Mixer Multitool™.

With this solution, MIXACO introduced a mixer concept that not only met the original process requirement, but also opened up new possibilities for a wide range of industries and applications. The Multitool™ showed that high mixing performance and gentle product handling do not have to be contradictory.

A mixer developed for real process requirements

One of the reasons why the Container Mixer Multitool™ remains so relevant today is that it was not developed in theory, but directly from practical process requirements. Its design is rooted in a real industrial problem and shaped by the need for reliable production results.

Over the years, the mixer has proven itself in numerous applications where conventional systems would generate too much heat or where sensitive materials require special care during the mixing process.

Today, the MIXACO Container Mixer Multitool™ is available in sizes of up to 2,000 liters and is used by customers across many different industries. Its versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of formulations and process demands, while the core principle remains the same: high flexibility, strong mixing performance and low thermal impact on the product.

To support customers in evaluating process requirements under realistic conditions, MIXACO offers free mixing trials with the Container Mixer Multitool™ in the company’s Test Center.

Using customer specific materials, these trials make it possible to assess mixing behavior, dispersion performance and product response before investment decisions are made. This creates a stronger basis for process development and gives customers practical insight into what the system can achieve in their own application.
