Infinity Meets Cooling: A New Benchmark for Mixing

For decades, many mixing processes across industries have relied on a heating mixer paired with a horizontal cooling mixer to achieve a homogeneous, ready-to-process material. It´s a proven combination that has served the plastics industry well. With the introduction of the Infinity MixerTM, MIXACO is taking a fresh look at what the heating stage of this process can achieve.
The Infinity MixerTM takes the place of the conventional heating mixer, but it does so with a fundamentally different design. Conventional heating mixers typically rely on a single central tool system to move, heat, and homogenize the material. This approach works, but it also has inherent limitations: material near the vessel walls or in low-flow zones can be prone to forming dead zones where circulation is less effective.
The Infinity MixerTM addresses this by using two interacting mixing-tool systems instead of one, creating overlapping flow paths throughout the mixing chamber rather than a single dominant flow pattern.
What two interacting systems change in practice
The overlapping flow paths created by the Infinity MixerTM‘s dual-tool design lead to a measurably higher level of particle interaction throughout the mix. This shows up in several concrete ways. Homogenization happens faster and more thoroughly, since more of the material is actively engaged in the mixing process at any given time. Dispersion of additives becomes more intensive and controlled, which matters wherever consistency and reproducible material properties are essential, from batch to batch.
Rather than relying on one central area of high shear, the Infinity MixerTM generates multiple, targeted shear zones. This strongly minimizes dead zones compared to the vortex-based circulation typical of conventional single-shaft systems, meaning less material is left undermixed or overexposed. The interaction between the two tool systems also generates very intensive, controllable friction heating, giving operators finer control over the thermal profile of the mix.

Why this matters for producers
These technical improvements translate directly into operational and commercial advantages. Producers can expect higher throughput per installed volume, shorter mixing times, and a reduction in energy consumption per kilogram of product, driven by more efficient shear generation rather than longer mixing cycles.
Just as importantly, the Infinity MixerTM offers very high recipe flexibility, since the process can be tuned through tool geometry, speed, and operating mode rather than being locked into a fixed mixing profile. For producers working with demanding formulations, or those who expect their recipes and applications to evolve over time, this flexibility can be just as valuable as the raw performance gains, regardless of the specific material being processed.
Particularly strong for difficult formulations
Not every formulation behaves the same way, and some are simply harder to mix consistently than others, whatever the industry. This is where the Infinity MixerTM‘s design shows its clearest advantage. The combination of higher particle interaction, multiple shear zones, and controllable friction heating gives operators more tools to work with when a formulation doesn’t respond well to conventional mixing, supporting better batch consistency even for the most demanding recipes and a wide range of applications.
A complete system: Infinity meets cooling
The Infinity MixerTM is designed to work as part of a complete system. Paired with a horizontal cooling mixer, it combines the IM’s advanced homogenization and heating capabilities with proven, reliable cooling performance, resulting in a process built for producers who need both reliability in day-to-day production and the flexibility to adapt as formulations and requirements change, across numerous industries and applications.
See it for yourself
Every material behaves differently, which is why MIXACO invites producers, across industries and applications, to test the Infinity MixerTM directly. In the MIXACO Test Center, customers can run a free mixing trial with their own material. Working alongside MIXACO’s application experts, they receive a clear, data-backed picture of how the Infinity MixerTM performs for their specific application and which process parameters deliver the best results.
